As we close out our mini summer season, we wanted to talk about another universally loved summer treat: s’mores! But it turns out that not everyone on the DIJFY crew is team graham crackers, chocolate, and marshmallows. Meghan and Stacie talk about the trouble with summer busyness, travel snacks and then Stacie gets free s’more’s therapy from cookbook author Dan Whalen.
Dan’s latest book S’mores!: Gooey, Melty, Crunchy Riffs on the Campfire Classic is full of clever recipes for everything from textbook chocolate, marshmallows, and graham crackers to savory riffs that only a mad genius Dan could come up with.
Summer Snacks
First things first, Stacie and Meghan catch up on summer. Stacie is just back from a three week vacay and Meghan is very ready for back to school to begin. A reminder to subscribe wherever you listen because we will be taking a one week break before diving into our back to school episodes starting August 5th.
Don’t worry, we’ve also got some really good summer snacks to get you through the home stretch. Here are some of the things we dished on:
Pancakes – listen to our pancake versus waffle debate in our Mommy Juice + Sleepover Episode
After school snack episode is all about store-bought shortcuts
The Dynamite Shop (where Oliver did cooking camp
Snacks the kids can feed themselves:
Toast or open face sandwiches
Avo toast
Hard boiled eggs
Pre prep fruit using a clever hack from this episode
Scrambled eggs
Cheese and crackers
Olives or pickles

More than S’mores S’mores
Dan Whalen is a prolific cookbook author (3 in just two years) and his most recent book S’mores!: Gooey, Melty, Crunchy Riffs on the Campfire Classic is perfect for summer time. Everyone loves a s’more right?
Stacie drops a bomb though — the chocolate is a deal breaker for her when it comes to this simple snack! Dan has some brilliant (and easy) alternatives, making him Stacie’s s’more soulmate.
Dan drops some other s’more knowledge on us too. Including:
What the name of a square of chocolate is!
The Controversial S’MORES BURGER
Why (and how) you should melt your chocolate
How to make your own s’mores party
The three s’mores recipes inspired by salads (be sure to listen to last week’s salad episode)
Also you guys, no surprise, because CHEESE ME but we totally talk about the best cheeses for s’mores
Apparently we all need to watch CAMPING because Meghan is Jennifer Garner or vice versa.
Specialty MARSHMALLOWS! These are Meghan’s local favorite.
